ولكنه دفع الثمن، عندما قال في مسرحية لعبة اسمها الفلوس أمي اتجوزت ثلاث مرات الأول وكلنا المش، والتاني علمنا الغش، والثالث لا بيهش ولا بينش، حيث تسببت هذه الجملة في اتهامه بالسخرية من رؤساء مصر الثلاثة، وحكم عليه بالسجن ستة أشهر، وأعقبها سجنه مرتين، أشهرهما بتهمة التعاطي،

ثم أفرج عنه لعدم كفاية الأدلة، فيما علق عليها سعيد صالح لاحقًا بتأكيده أن حبسه جاء بسبب طول لسانه حسب قوله.

من الأشياء الغريبة التى عرفت عن سعيد صالح، أنه رفض عدد من الأدوار التاريخية، التى قدمها آخرون وأصبحت من أشهر المسلسلات والأفلام في مصر، فقد عرض عليه دور العمدة سليمان غانم في مسلسل ليالي الحلمية أحد أيقونات الدراما المصرية، وقدم الدور بدلا منه الفنان صلاح السعدني،

وقيل أيضا أن دور صلاح السعدني في مسلسله الشهير أرابيسك عرض فى البداية أيضا على سعيد صالح ورفضه. في حفل زفاف يونس شلبي طلب من سعيد صالح ومن كل أصدقائه الفنانين الذين شاركوه مسرحية المشاغبين وأفلامه السينمائية عدم الحضور، وكان صريحا معهم في إعلان السبب.
