وأشار في مقاله إلى أن نزاع سد النهضة قد ينجم عنه تداعيات اقتصادية واجتماعية خطيرة تزعزع استقرار المنطقة وربما تصل للغرب، حيث يُمكن تسريع الآثار المدمرة بالفعل لتغير المناخ في المنطقة، وإطلاق موجة من الهجرة غير الشرعية إلى الغرب، وفتح الباب أمام صراعات جديدة وحتى الإرهاب في الشرق الأوسط وشرق أفريقيا.
